When people project their issues/faults/insecurities on other people. These are the people who see someone who looks good and carries themselves with confidence, and the first thing they say is “THEY THINK THEY ALL THAT”. Never mind that the person is humble or down-to-earth. Never mind that they’ve never implied that they’re better. YOU’VE labeled them that way because YOU think they’re better.
People do this with so many things. If you’re more knowledgeable about something, they label you as a know-it-all. If they’re guilty of something, they get mad because YOU’RE mad. I can’t. I just can’t. If you have negative feelings about yourself, own up it and stop projecting. That shit is weak.
Sula Peace, from Toni Morrison’s Sula. She was truly free, bordering on hedonistic, even, but she was still free and unencumbered by what society says that a woman of color is supposed to be. She wasn’t well-liked, but she truly did not care. She was one of the few female book characters that I actually admired.
